We raise cornish rock cross chickens for meat. They are raised on pasture and
get up to 30% of their food from the grass and bugs they scratch up
themselves. They are raised in an floorless pen that is moved onto fresh
pasture every morning. The chickens are certainly excited about the move,
racing to be the first onto the fresh grass. Their all natural feed comes from a
local feed mill and gets ground fresh to order. Chickens are butchard at 9
weeks of age for tenderness and typically yield about 5 pound birds.

We occasionally raise Pekin ducks for meat. This is done in portable floorless
coups like the meat chickens. The ducks are raised to 9 weeks just like the
chickens. Duck meat is all dark meat and has a much stronger flavor than
chicken. Not everyine likes duck, but those of us who do certainly appreciate
the flavor!

Betsy is the farm's beef cow. She gets rotated around to the various pastures
as needed. She gets fed a handfull of grain every day more as a treat to keep
her friendly then as a source of nutrition. She is otherwise entirely grass fed.
The plan is to raise any offspring up for meat.

Pork is the mainstay of the farm and is frequently available. We raise a
Birkshire / Duroc cross for meat which provides exceptionally high quality
pork. All of our hogs are raised on dirt- not concrete. This is more natural
for the hogs and provided they have enough space, we believe it is healthier
for the animals. Our hogs enjoy a wonderfull life running around, playing and
rooting to their hearts content.

Even though they have constant access to the best, local, 100% all
natural feed, they still enjoy the opportunity to eat anything that grows in
their pen including palmetto leaves, fallen trees, and wild grape vines. They
also love an occasional treat of fresh eggs, carrots from the garden, or even
peanuts that they will gladly eat right out of your hand!

We also have a flock of completely free range chickens that roam the grounds
performing general clean up duties. They spend their days searching for
spilled feed from the other animals and controlling the mosquito population.
It is a special pleasure indeed to sit back and watch these birds going about
their daily activities! It is truly amazing to watch the newest momma hens
guarding and teaching her babies as they wander the farm.
